The School of Surveying and Land Studies offers a range of industry-focused programs designed to equip students with practical skills and advanced knowledge in surveying, GIS, land administration, and property studies. Our courses combine hands-on training, modern geospatial technologies, and strong theoretical foundations to prepare graduates for professional roles in Papua New Guinea and beyond.
Undergraduate Programs
The School of Surveying and Land Studies offers four specialised undergraduate programs designed to build strong technical, analytical, and professional skills in geospatial and land-related fields. Our programs provide students with hands-on training, modern technologies, and practical field experience to prepare them for careers that support Papua New Guinea’s growth and development. The undergraduate programs offered are:
Bachelor in Geographical Information Science (GIS)
Bachelor in Property Studies

Bachelor of Science in Geomatics (new program)

Postgraduate Programs
The School of Surveying and Land Studies offers postgraduate pathways for professionals and graduates seeking advanced knowledge, research expertise, and specialised skills in surveying, GIS, land administration, geomatics, and property-related fields. Our postgraduate programs ranging from postgraduate diplomas to master’s and doctoral research degrees are designed to support innovation, deepen technical capability, and contribute to national development through high-quality academic and applied research.
Students benefit from mentorship by experienced academic staff, access to modern geospatial technologies, and opportunities to engage in research that addresses real-world challenges in Papua New Guinea and the region.
Entry requirement for a MPhil Degree is Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying, GIS or Property Studies with Merit and a GPA above 3.0 from a recognized university and MPhil/MSc Degree from a recognized university for the PhD program.
As for the Master of Science in Surveying, GIS or Property Studies, a Bachelor’s Degree with a GPA above 2.5.
Doctor of Philosophy
- Must have a Master degree in a field of study related to the subject
of the proposed research. - Proven track record of research
- More than 2 years’ work experience
- Contact the Department to confirm a supervisor and other requirements before submitting your application
Master of Philosophy
- A merit degree or postgraduate diploma from a tertiary
institution approved by the Postgraduate Studies, Research
and Innovation Committee (PSR&IC), or - A Bachelor degree of Honors standard (GPA 3.7 out of 5) from a
tertiary institution approved by the PSR&IC - Relevant first degree with an industry experience of more than
two years
Masters
- A merit degree or postgraduate diploma from a tertiary institution approved by the Postgraduate Studies, Research and Innovation Committee (PSR&IC), or
- A Bachelor degree of Honors standard (GPA 3 out of 5) from a
tertiary institution approved by the PSR&IC - Relevant first degree with an industry experience of more than
two years
