Programs and Courses

The School of Civil Engineering offers a comprehensive range of programs designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to address today’s engineering challenges. Our courses blend strong theoretical foundations with hands-on learning, preparing graduates to contribute effectively to infrastructure development, sustainability, and innovation within the engineering profession.

Undergraduate Program

Our undergraduate program in Civil Engineering provide students with a strong foundation in engineering principles, practical skills, and problem-solving abilities. Designed to meet industry standards and emerging global challenges, these programs prepare future engineers to contribute to sustainable infrastructure development and drive innovation across the sector.

This degree program is now in full accreditation to Washington Accord in 2024, under Engineers Australia.

Postgraduate Programs
Overview

The PG programs include: MPhil, MSc; and MEng, and PhD.  Students for the PG programs include both nationals and overseas candidates, the latest being from the Caribbean (MPhil, 2016).  The MSc and MEng programmes commenced in 2017.

Master of Engineering by research and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Civil Engineering programs are offered to candidates who have successfully completed the undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university and accumulated at least 2 years of industry working experience.

The entry requirements are as follows: Candidates with a grade point average (GPA) of between 70 to 84 percent for the four-year undergraduate degree course are eligible to pursue a Masters of Engineering by research. Those with a GPA of 85 percent or above (i.e. 1st Class honours students) can be admitted straight into the Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering by research program and graduates from any four-year degree can be admitted to do a Masters of Science in Solid Waste and Resource Management by coursework plus a research project.

  • Entry is open to students with a four (4) year Bachelor of degree in sciences or equivalent or related field with experience in Civil Engineering works.

Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering
  • A merit degree or postgraduate diploma from a tertiary institution approved by the Postgraduate Studies, Research and Innovation Committee (PSR&IC), or
  • A Bachelor degree of Honors standard (GPA 3 out of 5) from a tertiary institution approved by the PSR&IC
  • Relevant first degree with an industry experience of more than two years

Master of Philosophy in Civil Engineering
  • A merit degree or postgraduate diploma from a tertiary institution approved by the Postgraduate Studies, Research and Innovation Committee (PSR&IC), or
  • A Bachelor degree of Honors standard (GPA 3.7 out of 5) from a tertiary institution approved by the PSR&IC
  • Relevant first degree with an industry experience of more than two years

Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering
  • Must have a Master degree in a field of study related to the subject of the proposed research.
  • Proven track record of research
  • More than 2 years’ work experience
