Programs and Courses
The School of Applied Science offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs designed to provide strong scientific foundations and practical skills. Our programs integrate theory, laboratory work, and applied research to prepare students for careers in science, industry, education, and research. Undergraduate Program
The undergraduate programs offered by the School are designed to build a strong foundation in scientific principles and practical skills. Postgraduate Programs
Overview
The postgraduate programs of the School provide advanced training and research opportunities for graduates seeking to deepen their scientific expertise. These programs emphasise critical inquiry, innovation, and applied research that address real-world challenges. Through close supervision and access to specialised facilities, postgraduate students develop the knowledge and skills required for leadership roles in academia, research institutions, industry, and public service.
The School offers the following postgraduate programs: Master of Philosophy in Applied Chemistry, Master of Philosophy in Food Technology, Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Chemistry and Doctor of Philosophy in Food Technology. Refer below for the entry requirements.
Master of Philosophy in Applied Chemistry & Master of Philosophy in Food Technology
- A merit degree or postgraduate diploma from a tertiary
institution approved by the Postgraduate Studies, Research
and Innovation Committee (PSR&IC), or - A Bachelor degree of Honors standard (GPA 3.7 out of 5) from a
tertiary institution approved by the PSR&IC - Relevant first degree with an industry experience of more than
two years
Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Chemistry & Doctor of Philosophy in Food Technology
- Must have a Master degree in a field of study related to the subject
of the proposed research. - Proven track record of research
- More than 2 years’ work experience

Applied Science Short Courses
Science & Application Training: Farm to the Fork
This is a popular short course offered to food and allied industries. The course has been running for five years now and has successfully linked players in the food and allied industries, regulatory bodies such as NAQIA, NFA, Health Department and ICCC and academic institutions such as universities and secondary schools.
The short course runs for 3-5 days per level beginning at level I, all the way to level III and is intended for personnel in the food and allied industries, food service establishments, regulatory bodies and education agencies.
