Our Services

PNGUoT Medical Centre is situated within the PNGUoT Taraka campus and it’s near the Bookshop, Union shop and the Student Mess. It’s easily accessible by students, staff with their dependents, and the surrounding communities. PNGUoT Medical Centre comprises 13 nursing officers, 1 Community Health Worker (CHW), 1 Health Extension Officer, 1 Chief Medical Officer, 4 ambulance drivers, 2 secretaries and 2 janitors. The Medical Centre has two other sub-clinics: Timber and Forestry Training College (TFTC) and Bulolo University College (BUC). Timber and Forestry Training College has only 1 nursing officer, and Bulolo University College has only 1 nursing officer. All medical supplies to these sub-clinics come from the main clinic. According to our monthly report from the year, 2023, our clinic served more than 1000 – 2000 patients each month compared to other health centres within the Lae District.

The Clinic provides a range of essential healthcare services to support the health and wellbeing of students, staff, and the wider university community. Our services are delivered by qualified medical professionals in a safe and caring environment, with a focus on prevention, early treatment, and overall wellness.

The clinic opens 7 days a week to serve our students, staff and dependents and even the outside communities as well. Our clinic operating hours are: Weekdays – Monday to Friday are from 8am – 10pm, and Weekends – Saturday and Sunday, with Public Holidays are from 9 am – 4 pm only. From February to November, when the students are on campus, we usually open from 8am till 10pm at night to cater for students who attend classes during the day. From December to January, during weekdays, the clinic will only open from 8am to 6pm. The nurses are working in 2 shifts during the weekdays, and weekends are only 1 shift. The ambulance drivers are working in 3 shifts covering 24 hours for 7 days. The Clinic provides 8 different medical services to our clients. Students, staff and their dependents below 20 years old are free to use our services, whereas the students’ dependents, outsiders and staff relatives will be charged accordingly to the services.

The PNGUoT Clinic is a referral clinic, we provide quality health care for our patients. If a patient has a serious or complex health condition that needs advanced treatment, we refer them to a larger hospital with specialized doctors and better facilities. The clinic provides basic services 7 days a week. We have 24 staffs and there is an ambulance service in case of emergencies.

  • Outpatient consultation:
    Nurses’ consultation fee is K15, HEO’s consultation fee is K20, Medical Doctor’s consultation fee is K30. The Chief Medical Officer and the HEO also do general medical examination checkup and medical reports at a cost of K50.

    Day Ward Admission:
    The Clinic has 5 beds at the ward and one of the beds is strictly for emergency only, while the other 4 beds are for acute – sub acute ill patients. The are admitted to be stabilized with the proper clinical management. If the condition does not improve, they are referred to the Angau Memorial Hospital and the Private Hospital upon their request.

    Ambulance service:
    The ambulance service is available 24/7, every day, to help both students, staff, and their dependents. During after-hours, the students, dependents or staff who are sick are brought off campus to Angau Hospital or another private hospital to get medical help. Ambulance service is free to the student, staff, and their legal dependents. The outsiders and staff relatives are charged K30 fee.

    Baby Immunization Clinic:
    Every Tuesday, the clinic vaccinates every baby from 0 to 5 years old who visit the clinic. The Clinic also e provides free service for the baby clinic immunization, but for the outsiders there is a fee of K15.

    Antenatal Clinic:
    At the clinic, 2 midwives provides antenatal services every Wednesday. The pregnant mothers are given counselling, proper check-ups and more critical information to new pregnant mothers.


    Family Planning Clinic:
    Every Thursday is Family Planning Day, in which women come in to take either pills or a Depo Provera injection, which is provided at the clinic. Since last year, the clinic have been providing implant services for 3-5 years.


    Minor Theatre:
    The clinic has a minor theatre to perform minor operations, such as suturing open wounds, incisions and drainage for abscess, excising for small warts, applying pop to fractured bones, and removing sutures with cleaning of dirty sores and applying a change of dressing.

    Disease Control Office:
    Two Disease Control Officers provide TB and HIV/AIDS, STD services to the patients for free.
