Graduates of the Diploma in Wood Processing and Manufacturing program are equipped with a broad set of skills suited for the forestry and wood processing industries.

  • Ability to manage resources sustainably, create and implement forest management plans, and monitor forest operations.
  • Proficient in surveying, mapping, and analyzing forestry data, with hands-on skills in tree felling and log hauling.
  • Knowledgeable in silvicultural techniques to ensure the growth and sustainability of planted forests and have an in-depth understanding of wood properties and conversion technologies, focusing on waste management and bioenergy.
  • Apply wood machining principles in designing functional and aesthetically appealing timber products, and they know how to preserve and enhance wood durability through seasoning and preservation techniques.
  • Capable of supervising forest operations while ensuring safety and ethical standards, and their communication and negotiation skills enable them to work effectively within the industry.
  • Computing and problem-solving abilities help them address issues in wood processing, and they are equipped to manage forestry as an economic asset, promoting entrepreneurship in the wood processing sector.
  • Conduct research and share findings related to wood processing and manufacturing, preparing them for a variety of roles in the industry with a focus on sustainability, technical expertise, and management.

We offered short course programs in sustainable downstream processing across trade areas such as Timber Harvesting, Small-Scale Sawmilling, Sawdoctoring, Large-Scale Milling, Wood Technology, Wood Machining, and Furniture Manufacturing.

Apprenticeship Extension Course

Our extension course is designed for apprentices in their second and final years of training. It is a 16-week, full-time, on-campus advanced program. The National Apprenticeship Trade Testing Board, Department of Industrial Labour & Employment, certifies the training. The first block of training lasts 8 weeks for second-year apprentices, followed by another 8 weeks for final-year apprentices. The National Apprenticeship Board upon successful completion of both blocks’ awards certification.
